PARKEND potter Mary Rose Young has been well and truly bitten by the Royal Wedding bug and has designed some special commemorative work.

Like much of her pieces, a soap dish design is typically light-hearted with black and white images of Prince William and Kate Middleton superimposed on a heart with a Technicolor union jack as the background.

"My inspiration for the design came from Andy Warhol's silk screen prints – the faces of the happy couple have been drawn in his style and ceramic transfers of them combine with my hand painting in a unique manner," she said.

"I hope it strikes the right note of humour and fun for what should be a joyous day for the country having a holiday.

"I can remember the wedding of Charles and Diana of course. At the time all the wedding souvenirs seemed rather naff with a photo of the couple just getting stuck onto just about anything. So I wanted to make a beautiful piece for this wedding, not something to stuff in the attic in its collectible box but something to brighten your life right now.

"I may not be making pottery the next time a Royal Wedding comes along so as this is the one that falls in my era and I want to do it.

"My usual style uses Crowns and Hearts and so many other symbols that are suitable that I feel like the right person at the right time."
