Forest of Dean Motor Club is organising a charity night at Cinderford Rugby Club this Friday (May 20) in aid of the Forest of Dean Children's Opportunities Centre in Coleford.
Paul Willetts of the motor club says: "Marilyn Smith and her hard working team at the centre give disabled children the best possible start in life, but like a lot of organisations are struggling for funding.
"But they provide such an important facility for these children in the Forest of Dean and surrounding areas."
The panel of guests include the legendary Phil Collins, 2010 British Historic Champion; David Stokes, reigning UK Asphalt Champion; Damian Cole and British rallying's future stars Tom Cave and Adam Gould, the Forest's very own star Nik Elsmore; and to keep these drivers in check, WRC and IRC co-driver Craig Parry, plus possibly one more star name on the night.
There will be a small auction on the night as well, with an opportunity to co-drive Geriant Mills in the Opel Manta 400 for the day in the 2011 Rally Time Trial at Sweet Lamb on October 30, plus a ride with historic rally star Julian Reynolds and British star Tom Cave. There is also an entry to the Rally Time Trial in Sweet Lamb, signed shirts from Cheltenham Town FC, Llanelli Scarlets RFC items from Gloucester RFC, a half day session at the Gwynnespeed Rally School for all budding rally drivers, and tickets for the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Paul says: "We have some superb items donated for both auction and draw thanks to the panel of guests who give of their time to support us.
"It's not about what you can spend at the auction or win on the draw, it's the £5 you give to come in. Every £5 helps keep the centre going and gives these children a better opportunity in life. It is support we want on the night, but people often don't realise how much money the Forest of Dean Motor Club donates to local charities and hospitals. In the last 36 years of the Wyedean an estimated £100,000 as been handed over."
