AGE Concern is in advanced negotiations to supply meals to primary schools in the Forest to expand its catering service.

Chair of Age Concern Forest of Dean, Dr Daphne Pearson, told the Review: "We're trying to go into the area of supplying school meals as well as meals for older people. It is quite an innovative idea and would mean us working in close partnership with the schools. Talks are already ongoing with primary schools and three are showing particular interest. They've been very receptive."

Dr Pearson said the group also hopes to hear on December 21 whether they've been successful in getting £100,000 worth of RDPE/European funding through the Local Action Group.

"The money will go towards moving the kitchens (from Ensors) and refurbishment. We did cut our bid from £200,000 so we will still be looking to raise a lot more funding to reach our target."
