ON the verge of major off-field moves, it was the on-field activities of Milkwall's busy young team which knocked the stuffing out of Lydney in this surprise cup result.
The win at the Recreation Ground was richly deserved – and that's the losers point of view!
"They played better than us. They wanted the win more and fully deserved it," said Lydney's Stuart Liddington.
"We had our moments but, credit to Milkwall, they took their chances and deserve to be in the semi-finals," he said.
Milkwall's off-field activities surround the planned development of their ground for houses. The talk is of a new ground with a 200 seater stand and even under-soil heating.
But Milkwall's Graham Grindle was keener to talk about the cup success than moving pitches.
"I thought we played very well. It was a competitive game against a strong team. The difference was that I think we wanted it a little bit more than Lydney," he said.
It was all square at half-time. Milkwall's Craig Morgan had hit the opening goal and Lydney responded with a succesful strike by Luke Clarke. In the second-half two goals by Greg Prosser gave Milkwall a comfortable advantage and they never looked under serious threat.
