A MISSING woman was found four days after she disappeared from Lydney following a massive search and rescue effort.

Janice Warren, aged 71, was found in undergrowth near Bream Rugby Club last Saturday.

She had gone missing from Lydney on Tuesday (August 13) and was found by members of the Severn Area Rescue Association (SARA).

Land Search Teams from SARA Beachley and Tewkesbury were called out to Bream on Friday evening to support Gloucestershire Police but the search was paused at 1am on Saturday (August 17) and resumed at 9am.

SARA were joined by colleagues from Gloucestershire Cave Rescue, the Midlands Cave Rescue Organisation and the Search and Rescue Dog Association South Wales.

Mrs Warren was found by one of the SARA teams early on Saturday afternoon and was looked after by two of the group’s casualty carers – including one who was visiting from SARA Wyre Forest in Worcestershire – until an ambulance arrived.

A spokesman for SARA said: “We were delighted that the missing lady was located by one of our teams.

“We wish the lady a speedy recovery.

“Many thanks to all the volunteers who attended on what was a very wet evening and then an arduous daytime search, and the police for arranging very welcome refreshments.”

Mrs Warren’s granddaughter, Emma Skidmore, said her grandmother was in hospital where she was “extremely poorly but doing well.”

She wrote: “Everybody is amazed about how she survived.‘It shows she’s a real trooper, a real fighter and if she can survive that she can fight her way back from this.’

She wrote: “We are more than grateful. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, and please remember that mental health is a serious thing so if at any point you see someone struggling please help.”
