WHY has the Countryside Agency been given money to burn in the Forest? – £380,000 in the past year? (Review, May 10) And it seems to be difficult to get rid of the stuff: "projects to help secure and celebrate the special nature of the Dean's landscape and heritage" smack of desperation, and running around the Forest asking people why they think it special is plainly demented.
Or is this perhaps what we are being offered in place of what Frank Dobson (remember him?) once famously promised – protection of the limestone areas of the Dean from mineral exploitation? – E.R. Biggart, St Briavels.
