MONMOUTH Labour Party has voted decisively to support the UK’s continuing membership of the European Union.

During the recent debate, many members contributed their views. Some speakers emphasised 70 years of peace between European countries, claiming it is a direct result of the formation of the EU.

Others expressed concerns that workers’ rights could disappear if the UK votes to leave. Younger members spoke about the protection that EU membership affords women and feel that it is important to hand the whole project on to the younger generation of British Europeans.

Contributors also believe there is a strong case for Wales being part of the EU stating that it gets back more than it puts in.

Monmouth Labour Party’s candidate for the Welsh Assembly elections, Catherine Fookes says: “The position of Labour in Monmouthshire is clear and unambiguous. Conservatives, notably Nick Ramsey and David Davies, are neither and I invite them both to clarify their position.”
