A MODEL-T Ford, a stately red and black Armstrong-Siddeley and a gleaming silver Morgan were among the classic cars to set out on the first ever Autumn Wye Run event organised by Chepstow Rotary Club.

The success and popularity of the Rotary’s 15 spring classic car runs led to the new event being added to the calendar, with the route starting at Chepstow Garden Centre and finishing at at Chepstow Racecourse.

Along the way, drivers and passengers cruised through the Wye Valley AONB, the Forest of Dean and the Brecon Beacons on lesser-used scenic roads.

With teams from as far afield as Cardiff and Devizes, Cheltenham and Weston-super-Mare there was a very interesting mix of vehicles.

The Model-T Ford with some strangely dressed passengers towered over the modern cars while the stately Armstrong-Siddeley seemed very long by modern standards.

Launched at one-minute intervals by the Rotary marshals, the cars sped off into the depths of the Monmouthshire countryside following their junction-by-junction navig-

ation instructions.

Rotary spokesman Chris Wilson said: “Smiling faces showed that this had been a really enjoyable day and the Rotary Cub was thanked by the entrants for organising this second special event.

“All of the money received is to be donated to Rotary charities.”
