DEAN Forest Railway has commemorated one of its greatest supporters, Melville Watts, nicknamed 'Mr Lydney' by tracking down the original 1930s Lydney Station sign.

The sign, unveiled by Melville's wife, Jane, and twin brother Cecil, was discovered in a shed where it had been lying for 40 years or more.

A plaque now below the sign reads: "Melville Watts OBE JP. The Lydney Town station name plate was purchased with donations given in memory of Melville, a staunch supporter of Dean Forest Railway and affectionately known as 'Mr Lydney'."
