IT was another successful year for organisers of the Monmouthshire Show last Thursday despite the torrential rain.

Show secretary Liz Egerton said attendance was give or take the same as previous years and all the money raised will go towards supporting local good causes, including Building Bridges.

She said: “Building Bridges helps young adults with learning difficulties, such as autism, to get involved in fun activities and make new friends in Monmouth and the surrounding areas.

“It’s too early to say how much we have raised but we shall certainly help local good causes.”

The show saw plenty of action from a children’s treasure hunt, cider making and a visit from beekeepers to keep people of all ages entertained.

From next year the day and date of the show will move to the first Saturday in July. Since the late 17th century it has been tradition for the show to fall on the last Thursday of August.

Liz added: “We have decided to move the date to allow for the fact that it’s difficult for volunteers to take time off work in the week during high season. Also the volume of traffic on the A40 is a nightmare and we’d like to think we can attract more people who we wouldn’t normally as they work through the week.”
