YOUNG mums at Berry Hill are planning a major scheme to resurrect a neglected village playing field.
Fingers are crossed that an application for a grant of £50,000 will be forthcoming to bring back to life an area of parkland at Hillcrest Road. The group wants to purchase the latest play equipment for youngsters.
Nicola Powles explained: "The park had fallen out of use but now there are lots of young families locally. The area had become neglected and unkempt but we are hoping now to bring it back to life. At the moment there is just one swing and a single goal post."
Nicola and friend Maureen Jones contacted West Dean Parish Council to get their blessing for the project.
She said: "Now we have a strong committee and £2,000 in the bank. The money has been raised by a two hour sponsored zumba dance and various fund-raising events.
"We have a quote for £76,000 to cover the cost of all the work we would like to see carried and we have made an application for grant of £50,000. We are hoping to here the result soon and to bring the playing area back to life."
