A NEW peer-led support group has opened in Coleford for those suffering from mental health issues.
The group runs every Tuesday between 1pm and 3pm for people to drop-in and talk to like-minded people.
The group has been set up by Coleford resident Sophie Hawkins, who, after years of suffering with her own mental health problems, and with help from GreenSquare’s housing support team in Gloucestershire, decided to use her experiences to support others in the community.
She said: "People often make the mistake of thinking that you completely recover from mental health problems, but you never fully do. However, it can become easier to deal with them if you have the right support.
"In rural, remote areas like Coleford, there aren’t that many easily accessible services for people, who are looking for mental health support. I decided to set up this group to let people know that they’re not alone and that there is someone there to listen to them – and to understand what they are going through because they’ve been on a similar journey."
The group is taking place at the Town Council Office, No 2 The Town House, Lords Hill Walk. There will be limited refreshments available.
