A NEW tourist information centre in Coleford is on track to open on Saturday (March 19).

The project, which is led by Coleford Town Council and supported strongly by the Tourism Association and Coleford Area Partnership, aims to plug a critical gap in the current tourist experience of the region by providing a fully-staffed facility with access to both printed literature and online services.

Doors are due to open at 10am.

Deputy Mayor of Coleford Cllr Nick Penny is leading the project. He said: "We have been overwhelmed with the response to our recent appeal for volunteers and are now going through the final stages of recruiting and inducting over 25 local people who will undertake regular shifts in the Coleford centre.

“We urge local attractions, accommodation providers, and tourism-related businesses to make themselves known to us and to supply us with leaflets and information so we can help promote their businesses within the region."

Cllr Penny added: “We will open our doors on a drop-in basis from 10am until 4pm this Monday (March 14) for tourism providers to come and see the facility and to hand over any leaflets.”

The centre is at 4 Lords Hill opposite the police station.
