A FOREST football club has tackled the problem of boar destroying its newly improved pitch by erecting barriers and cattle grids, at a cost of £10,000.

Promoted in 2014 and playing in the North Gloucestershire Premier Division and second division, the club were premier champions in 2014 and in 2015.

The work to improve the pitch and prevent boar from damaging cost nearly £10,000 and was funded by English Bicknor Village Hall and Social Club.

Helen Campion, secretary of the club, said: “Following recent promotion, English Bicknor Football Club has undertaken extensive work to the surface of their football pitch, seeding, patching and the erecting barrier rails and shelters. Members of the football club did all the work.

“Recent boar activity in the area has spurred the club to strengthen fencing in vulnerable areas of the perimeter fence, and to install cattle grids including pedestrian gates at both the entrance and exit to the playing fields.”
