A MOTORCYCLE gang is being accused of creating mayhem in woodland near Brierley and Newham Bottom.

A pensioner has told the Review he fears he could become a casualty as the bikers race round the woods with "no regard for anything other than their own fun".

And he has sent the names of some of the riders to Forest Enterprise and local MP Diana Organ with a plea: "Please do something!"

He says the riders are shattering the peace and tranquillity of the Forest, ruining tracks and endangering walkers, horse riders and cyclists.

"This is not something new but is getting increasingly worse. The police and Forest Enterprise were informed but were not seen to respond.

"There have often been complaints made against horse riders and cyclists ruining the Forest but the devastation and danger caused by motorcyclists in a matter of minutes is tragic.

"I have occasionally come across horse riders and cyclists and have invariably found them to be courteous and friendly – not so the gang of youths.

"Yes, the tracks show signs of wear and tear by all, even truck and tractor damage caused by the men logging the trees, but nothing compares to the extensive erosion done by motorcycles. Can nothing be done?" he asks.
