A SLICE of Severnside history – the board used to advertise the days when Bullo Pill was a centre for powerboat racing – is to be restored and hung on the wall of Newnham's Railway Inn.
Keen local historian and pub landlord David Price says he is delighted to become the guardian of the board.
"It's an interesting link with the days when powerboat racing created a lot of interest locally. I understand people travelled from all over the country to the Bullo races," he said.
"At one stage there was a clubhouse and store at Bullo and even a crane to assist boats in and out of the Severn. It would be interesting if anyone can remember when the last event was held there."
The board was discovered in the cellar of a house at Bullo and it has been given to Mr Price with the condition it is hung on a wall in the pub where there are already many photographs showing scenes of the Newnham of yesteryear.
The races took place between markers moored in the river at Bullo and Broadoak – a run of a straight mile.
"I have been told the races attracted quite a following," he said.
The board is to undergo some restoration before going on display.
