KEEPING fit in Caldicot is a walk in the park – literally.

Caldicot Town Council has invested £10,000 in outdoor gym equipment which can be used by adults.

The council has installed seven pieces of equipment in the King George V playing field in the town centre.

Town mayor Alan Davies said: "It is part of a five-year strategy the town council has agreed to improve the well-being of people in Caldicot.

"The equipment can be used by people of all ages and the feedback we've had so far has been very positive.

"People can use the equipment as they are walking through the park."

"Each piece of equipment has instructions on how to use it and there is a code on each one which will allow people to get more information using their smartphones."

The idea for the open air gym came after town councillor Jim Higginson saw something similar in another town.

The town council hopes to extend the idea to include facilities for people with disabilities when the compound area of the park is redeveloped.
