A TRAFFIC Management Order has now been made to introduce car parking charges at ten of the Forest of Dean District Council's car parks.
The area is now set to have to pay for formerly free parking in the main Forest towns and other communities from Monday July 1.
Copies of the order and the notice that it has been made are available for inspection at libraries in the district and at the District Council's reception.
Charges will apply between 8am and 6pm from Monday to Saturday in all car parks except Redbrook, where charges will apply from 8am to 6pm every day.
Disabled parking will be free at any time in any bay, provided a valid blue badge is displayed.
Car parks where charging will be introduced are:
Cinderford – Heywood Road.
Coleford – Newland Street, Railway Drive and Bank Street.
Lydney – Bream Road, Newerne Street and Newerne Street Overflow.
Mitcheldean High Street.
Newent Lewell Street (High Street).
Redbrook Riverside.
Prices range from 20p for one hour to £2 for more than four hours, with weekly tickets (valid for seven days) at £10.
Longer term permits range from £40 a month to £312 a year.
Overnight permits will be £50 a year and will enable the holder to park between 5pm and 9am.
Payment can be made for tickets at the machine by cash or by mobile phone. For residents wishing to buy permits application forms are available from Apcoa by phoning 01452 521284 or emailing [email protected]">[email protected]. Permits can also be paid for monthly by direct debit through Apcoa.
Cllr Brian Robinson, deputy leader of the council and cabinet member for Efficient Council and Planning Policy said: "Permits and tickets will be able to be used by the holder which means people can share their permit in their household or place of work, helping them to get the best value for money.
"They will also be transferable between car parks meaning people can park in one town and then go on to park in other towns on the same permit or valid ticket."
He added: "Over the next week we will be writing to everyone who took the time to respond to the consultation advising them that the order has been made, when the order comes into effect and the reasons why it has been made."
