I AM replying to Keith Webb's letter in last week's Review regarding captured airman.

He has been misinformed as regards location. The incident occurred at our home at Lower Palmers Flat, the coalman was my father, Cyril Adams. The German airman was discovered hiding behind the lorry early one morning and gave his gun to my father.

Mum felt sorry for him as he was only in his late teens, and gave him some tea and toast before Dad took him to the police station. My brother, sister and I were annoyed at the time as we never saw him because we were still in bed. However, he did give Mum his signalling torch which we had for many years afterwards.

Apparently there were three more airmen who bailed out at that time and all were captured, although the parachutes were never found despite a search by my brothers Bob and Terry and their friends. We never heard of a German plane landing locally at that time. – Jennifer Jones (nee Adams), Milkwall.
