THE latest proposal of the council to inflict car parking charges on the public is sheer lunacy.

The 'consultants' have apparently indicated that this additional tax could net over £228,162 a year, and in order to collect this the council proposes spending £127,000 each year. An efficiency of only 55 per cent!

I think that the public deserve much better of the local administration, and before we accept these ill-conceived measures we should recall the fanciful sums of money that we are told would be generated by the disposal of the then existing council properties in order to justify the building of 'Arthur's Folly', the grand offices in Coleford where the car parking is free!

Please don't suggest that it is charged for, we will only end up with yet another unjustified expense on the housing budget! Incidentally, I do not possess a car. – A.H. Middleton, Woodland Rise, Parkend.
