SUSTRANS is well aware of the concern of residents in
Brockweir village and villages near Chepstow about
visitors' parking.
We have deliberately gone to the expense of
engaging a transport consultancy which is very
experienced in managing the impacts of car-borne
visitors in a tourist area, to bring a measure of
independent scrutiny to the car parking issue.
They have had access to the Sustrans' database
which is the most extensive source of data on the usage
of traffic-free paths available in the UK, to build a picture
of how the path will be used, and have also been able to
refer to the results of the local public consultations we
conducted last year, which gives a local perspective on
how people will access the path.
We are confident that the methodology used is
robust and the predictions as sound as is reasonably
possible. Of course, nobody can be absolutely certain
about human behaviour, but we can go a long way in
managing car parking demand by using marketing
material and on site signage to make sure local car
owners are not inconvenienced by visitor parking.
