A FOREST school is to be featured in a Parliamentary report that highlights creative and innovative responses to challenges faced by organisations.
Wyedean School was invited to be part of the education edition of The Parliamentary Review after going from being in special measures to being declared ‘good’ by education inspectors from Ofsted in just a year.
The magazine has contributions from senior Cabinet members, including the Prime Minister, and leading commentators.
The invitation to appear in the education edition came from editor-in-chief of The Parliamentary Review, David Curry, the former Conservative MP for Skipton and Ripon in Yorkshire.
In a letter to Wyedean’s headteacher, Rob Ford, Mr Curry wrote: “As you are aware, last year a small number of outstanding or considerably improving schools were invited to appear alongside senior Cabinet ministers including the Rt Hon George Osborne (Chancellor of the Exchequer) aimed at highlighting best practice and raising standards in secondary education.
“I feel the school is well-placed to appear as one of next year’s showcased organisations.”
Mr Ford, who joined as headteacher during the summer, said the invitation was an honour for the school although he did not know who had put forward Wyedean as a potential candidate.
He said: “Being invited to be part of The Parliamentary Review is a great honour for the school and is testament to where we are and where we want to go.
“It is an exciting time for the school, not only did we jump from being in special measures to good but we also had our best-ever A-level results this summer.”
As well as the being selected to appear in The Parliamentary Review, Wyedean is also part of a group set up by South West Schools’ Commissioner Sir David Carter for schools that have the potential to be declared ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted.
Wyedean is one of 12 schools across the region that will work together to share knowledge and ideas that lead to improvements in learning.
As well as being partnered with two schools in Bristol, Mr Ford said there was also a lot of good work going on with schools in the Forest.
Later this month senior staff from Wyedean and Forest High School in Cinderford will share a video conference with leading American educationalist Bill Bixby and the principals of several high-performing US schools.
