YOUNG dog lovers and their four-legged friends descended on the Forest for a week. Members of the Young Kennel Club took over Forest Oak Farm, on the outskirts of Lydney.

The 67 dog-loving youngsters had the opportunity to train their dogs in handling, agility, obedience, heelwork to music and the Good Citizen Dog scheme.

It is the first time that the junior section of the Kennel Club has held its annual camp in Gloucestershire.

Among those at the camp was 16-year-old Jane Ambrey of Yorkley with three-year-old border collie Brooklyn.

She said: "Brooklyn really likes heelwork to music and obedience.

"As well as enjoying the site and the Young Kennel Club (YKC), I've been helping out at the camp. It's been fun."

Jane became interested in dog training after seeing a demonstration by the team at Forest Oak at the Elton Giant Mazes.

Young Kennel Club chairman Gerald King said: "The annual camp is an important event in the development of young people.

"Not only is it run by senior YKC members as part of their learning, it encourages attendees to try different canine activities."
