A GENEROUS donation from a member of the public has helped to erect a boar-proof fence around Coalway Recreation Ground.
The fence will keep boar off the 4.5 acre site which includes the pitch used by Mushet and Coalway FC.
The 200 metres of fencing, which includes a stile, cost more than £1,100. The member of the public who made the donation has asked to remain anonymous.
Mary Goodson, of the Coalway Recreation Ground committee, said: “Many residents of Coleford have grown up using the playground which caters for children of all ages and is a much loved area for families to visit.
“Without these facilities the football club and Scout groups would need to find new premises.
Boar intrusion and dog fouling is a constant concern for the health and safety of all who wish to use the facilities.
“The fencing addresses the issue of boar damage but not dog owners who ignore the signs and continue to allow their dogs onto the site.
“We would like to ask all dog owners to please respect the local neighbourhood and keep our site clean.”
