YOUNG and old delighted a packed crowd at this year’s 12th Forest Faddle.
Among those who gave an outstanding performance was 15-year-old singer, ‘Rosita’ who gave renditions of songs by soul singers Adele and Sam Smith.
It is believed that this was the first time the Newent teen had performed in front of a large audience.
One of the organisers, of the Dean Forest Voice, Liz Morgan said: “Rosita was absolutely brilliant – it’s hard to believe she’s only 15. I think this was her first time singing to a crowd of that size. I hope she goes on to do well in the future.”
The 12th Forest Faddle, which celebrates the heritage, culture and dialect of the Forest of Dean, was held at the Forest Theatre, in Five Acres, on Saturday.
This year’s junior Forest bard winner was 10-year-old Lea School pupil, Sophia Stallard, who wrote These Are a Few of My Favourite Forest Things.
Second-time senior bard winner Rosemary Morgan, of Cinderford, last won in 2010. This year’s winning poem was called The Green Monster, which is based on a van. Both winners received a cup.
There was also entertainment from folk singer Dick Brice, harpist Jemima Phillips and Keith Morgan, of Dean Forest Voice, and a resounding finish from the Churchdown Male Voice Choir.
Liz added: “Everybody had a wonderful evening and the choir always brings in a crowd. On behalf of Dean Forest Voice, who organise the event, I must thank Bill Parker of Bream for his ongoing sponsorship – it’s greatly appreciated.”
