POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a fate crash after an 81-year pedestrian died in a collision with a car.

The incident happened on the busy B4221 in Gorsley between Newent and Ross-on-Wye just before 6pm on Sunday, December 30.

The man, who lived in the village, was struck by a Mini, which is believed to have been travelling towards Gloucester, close to Gorsley’s former post office.

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said the pensioner was declared dead at the scene and his next of kin had been informed.

The road was closed for several hours while the incident was dealt with.

Shocked villagers laid floral tributes at the roadside on New Year’s Eve in tribute to the crash victim.

One of the first people on the scene was a doctor who is a member of Gorsley Baptist Church, which now runs the post office from its own premises, but sadly there was nothing he could do.

Anyone with information that could help police with their enquiries is asked to call 101 quoting incident 0460S of 30 December 2018.
