IN answer to the recent letter page question, "Where have all the politicians gone?" – long life has given me a reasonable insight into many politicians who have served the Forest. Certainly they had to have the strength and dynamism to match all their tasks.
Saddest to my reckoning is that young people today with all their education have no real desire to enter politics. Is this because of the image politicians now have in the media, including an apparent lack of graciousness and humility? We have seen more and more young people gaining entrance to Oxford and Cambridge. This is something to be proud of and we hope their futures become fruitful in this direction.
As a final revolutionary thought on the matter, isn't it now time to bring in a form of proportional representation?
Some of us have witnessed grinding poverty in the past. Let's hope this never returns. – Hubert Evans, Ross-on-Wye.
