BATHURST Pool in Lydney launches its summer season with a free open day from noon on Saturday, May 28.

Trustee Sheila Berryman says: “We are so relieved to be able to open this year. After vandals broke in back in February we were worried that the pool lining would be damaged.”

As the Review reported at the time, this would have landed the pool with a repair bill for £40,000. Sheila says: “Luckily everything was okay, but we were overwhelmed by the support we received from the local community. So many people came to help us repair the damage or donated money to help us improve security and prevent this from happening again. We want to say thank you.”

The vandals have not yet been caught, but a reward of £1,000 is still on offer for information leading to an arrest. If you can help, contact Gloucestershire Police on 101 quoting incident number 219 of February 7.
