REFERENCE the letter 'Naughty neighbour' on page 14 of the Review (November 23, 2012) where the author asks for suggestions on how to handle the situation.

I suggest the person:

a) Takes a video of an occasion when the neighbour drives on the verges cutting them up and causing hazardous mud on the road. The date and time the video was taken must be recorded.

b) Politely tell their neighbour you have done so and that he is significantly increasing, by his actions, the likelihood of an accident happening and, should one occur, send a copy to the accident insurers who will then use it as evidence in making a claim against him. If he does not heed the advice, send a copy to the agencies in 'c' below.

c) Send a copy to the police, county council and highways (whoever is responsible for maintaining the road in a safe condition) stating this video has been sent as evidence should an accident occur as a result of this neighbour's irresponsible driving attitude. My memory recalls that driving without due consideration to other road users was a driving test failure so clearly this neighbour's driving isn't up to standard.

I'm surprised at the council's attitude. If they are responsible for maintaining the verges, it is their duty to keep such areas in a satisfactory state. That's part of what we pay our local taxes for.
