CASH for Remembrance poppies collected at Bream Post Office and the Boots Pharmacy in the High Street has been stolen.

A spokesman at the chemist said she thought the theft last Wednesday or Thursday was a "disgusting" act, while postmaster Richard Wright said he was very upset by the loss.

"I have no real idea what was in the box but there is normally £20 or £30. It is obviously very upsetting for us, especially when it is for such a good cause considering the current stituation in Afghanistan and what the Legion does for service people and their families.

"It is a mean act when we are all trying to share and do our bit."

Mr Wright said the money must have been taken around the same time the chemist discovered theirs had gone.

The thefts mirror a recent case in Bristol where a thief was detected taking poppy collection tins on store security cameras. He was convicted and given an 18-week jail sentence.
