A FOREST pub has come up with a piping hot new idea – award-winning pie and mash delivered to your front door.

The Farmer’s Boy has teamed up with online delivery service JustEat to offer a range of traditional, vegetarian, gluten-free and vegan pies to hungry food lovers within a seven-mile radius of the pub in Longhope.

Farmer’s Boy director Phil Kiernan is hoping that his range of tasty pies will tempt people away from the home-delivery staples such as pizza and Indian.

He said that with young people less likely to go to the pub, he’d decided that home delivery was the way to go.

“The pub trade is changing and this is about diversification,” he said. “Millennials (people born in the 80s or early 1990s) don’t go to the pub, so we decided that we would take it to them.

“We’ve won 27 awards for our pies and we’ve worked with people like Phil Vickery. We are offering a quality product.”

Customers order on the JustEat website and the pie and mash is delivered in a recyclable box – which is kept in an insulated carrier – along with gravy and mushy peas.

Phil said: “Before we set up, I asked people what they thought and they all said it was a good idea.”

Among the pies on offer are: chicken, leek and mushroom with Somerset Brie, Guinness and Gloucestershire black pudding and sweet potato, butternut squash and cauliflower cheese.

The vegan butternut squash and sweet potato pie is topped with herb roast potatoes instead of pastry while all gluten-free pies are topped with gluten-free pastry.

Phil added: “It has been my goal to produce gourmet pies for everyone, even if you have a gluten allergy.

“It took years to find a gluten-free pastry that was good enough to work with.

“After trial and error and speaking to some interesting people, we found one.”
