RAISING awareness of the impact of plastic was the task one local school set themselves recently.

Forest High School was one of only 20 schools across the UK chosen to work on a project designed to highlight the need to reduce plastic in our seas.

A school spokesperson said: “Year Eight and Nine students worked in teams, with the Transformation Team and Sky Media on the project, to learn about the impact of throwing plastic into our oceans and then each team produced an advert about it.

“The winning team for our school was ‘Team Ocean Man’ comprising Ryley Cocker, Charlie Taylor, Thom Williams, Finley Grindle, Keelan Ward, George Bendall, Ben Ricketts and Liam Wilkins from Year Nine. Their initiative was an educational video which highlighted the plight of fish eating plastic before explaining why this was a problem and how we could solve the issue.

“The advert will be submitted to Sky’s media specialists, who will select five overall school winners once the workshops finish in March, for an all-expenses paid trip to the company’s headquarters in London.

“There the ideas will be made into a real advert which will been seen across its platforms and on the Sky Ocean Rescue website.

“We eagerly await the final results to discover whether we have won. We would like to thank the Transformation Team and Sky for this amazing opportunity.”
