A PUPPY brought a town centre to a halt when it escaped from its owner and darted between cars.

Dragging its lead behind it, the Jack Russell-type dog stopped the traffic in Monmouth’s busy high street on Friday lunchtime, as shoppers desperately tried to catch it.

There were hold ups both ways in Monnow Street as drivers stopped in fear of running over the dog and its pursuers, with some motorists getting out and trying to grab it.

The mischievous mutt was finally collared after a 10-minute game of chase it no doubt thought was great fun.
