LUCKY Aylburton partied in dry as the Carnival came to town on Saturday – it didn't rain until after 6pm and by that time The Cross pub had scooped the major prizes: best carnival float and tug-o-war victory.

Landlord of The Cross Richard Kemsley said: "I think it was one of the best Carnivals we've ever had, considering the recent bad weather.

"I know they raised more than £1,000 on the gate – maybe not as good as bumper years, but all the same a good amount.

"Everybody had a great time and there was a very good turnout."

Tianna Thomas was queen for the day, leading the procession from Taurus Crafts to Millbrook Green where walkers joined and went on to the Cross with attendants Emma Buckley, Sam Clarke, Henry Cole, Eleanor Cowell, Lottie Cox and Miriam Holmes.

A host of Olympics-themed events greeted everyone at the Carnival field including standing long-jump and seated medicine-ball push.
