SEARCH Teams from SARA Beachley were called out after dark to search for two missing walkers in the Staunton area, near Coleford.

Team members had just finished advanced first aid training at 10pm on Thursday, May 10, when the call came in. Working with police and colleagues from Tewkesbury, they searched Highmeadow Woods, and found the walkers with one injured and requiring stretcher evacuation.

SARA helped Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service with the carry-out through the steep woods to waiting medical care.

A SARA spokesman said: “This is the kind of job we train for, and we are fortunate to have dedicated volunteers who will turn out in the middle of the night, We were delighted that it all ended well.”
