THESE little chaps are having a rare old time on their small-holding home at Lydbrook.

And rare is the operative word – these middle white pigs are on the endangered list.

Phill Hucks of the Orchard Trust at Stowfield said: “They’re actually rarer than giant pandas.”

The piglets were born just after Christmas and joined a range of other animals on the 17-acre site at Stowfield, including sheep, pygmy goats, ducks, rabbits and guinea pigs.

The ‘therapeutic small-holding’ gives people with disabilities the opportunity to look after animals, although members of the public are encouraged to visit and meet the animals and enjoy the site’s sensory garden views over Lydbrook and the Wye Valley.

Mr Hucks said: “The path through the site is wheelchair-friendly and we will be offering gentle walks for people with dementia.”

The small-holding has been a key part of the trust’s work for nearly 30 years, giving the opportunity for meaningful work for its service users.

Mr Hucks added: “We feel very strongly that an accessible smallholding should be a resource for the whole community.”
