•When the Beacon newspaper office in Monmouth went up in flames there were plenty of people around to record the scene. Postcard collector Roy Close was in the printing trade at the time – it was, he says, 1960 – and recalls that the printing operation transferred from Monmouth to the Mercury Office in Cinderford until repairs were completed.
