AN INSURANCE claim for £300,000 is no longer being pursued against Lydney Dial-a-Ride.

Four years ago in October one of the local transport charity's buses was involved in a serious accident which left pedestrian Mrs Jean Murrell, of Newnham, trapped and seriously injured under the vehicle that the minibus driver allegedly clipped.

Mrs Freda Dryhurst of Yorkley, who died in June 2011, was driving her Citroen estate along Newerne Street when minibus driver Philip Hughes pulled out of Forest Road which caused her to lose control of her car and mount the pavement, it was claimed.

Pedestrian Mrs Murrell was awarded £1.45 million in damages – with costs to be assessed – and in June 2012 the estate of the driver put forward a claim against Dial-a-Ride for £300,000.

They issued a claim on the basis that that the action of driver, Philip Hughes contributed to the accident.

A spokesperson said: "Lydney Dial-a-Ride is pleased to report the insurance claim against us and our driver Philip Hughes is no longer being pursued. We are grateful that this has now been resolved. Our thoughts are with those who were involved in the accident that took place in October 2009."
