TWO local councillors who stood for and were elected as UKIP candidates – Colin Guyton, Lydbrook and Ruardean, and  Alan Preest, Lydney North – have changed their colours since the referendum to leave the EU.

Mr Guyton as I understand it  is now an ‘Independent’ and Mr Preest a Tory.

While I understand it is quite the fashion nowadays for politicians to throw their little hissy fits and resign their posts – just look at the Labour Party shower recently – none of them ever actually resign their seats, do they?

Why get off the gravy train when you can treat the electorate as mugs?

No doubt these gentlemen will continue to take payments from the council for their “duties”.

It is an absolute disgrace.

It is disturbing, in a so-called democracy, that politicians can stand for one thing then just change their minds and stand for something else as soon as they have hoodwinked the people who believed in them – thus denying the electorate the representation that they voted for.

It is the EU all over again, dictatorship through the back door.

If these gentlemen  feel they can no longer uphold and fight for the things they promised  when garnering people’s support in the run-up to the elections then they should stand down completely.

Resign their posts at the council and hand their posts to another UKIP member who will do the job that the electorate wanted.

Had the people in the wards they were supposed to represent wanted a Tory or Independent  councillor then surely that is what they would have voted for?

No doubt a great deal of money was spent helping these fair-weather politicians get elected in the first place. Are they going to pay that back?

Resign your posts forthwith gentlemen. Lord knows you wouldn’t want to go to war with these two behind you would you?

PS: I would be more than  happy to take over one of their roles and fight for what those good people voted for – no coat of many colours on this chap.
