National League Three

Lydney 68, Camberley 13

AN unbeaten start to the league programme and two out of two in the Powergen Cup ... it's the stuff of dreams at Regentsholme.

But will the run of success continue at Fylde on Saturday?

Though the Lancashire team have not made the best of starts, they are a league above Lydney and Regentsholme supporters know only too well it will be a big ask to pull off a cup success there this weekend.

Rugby manager Gordon Sargent explains: "It will be a tough one. From bitter experience we know there is a gulf between the leagues. In the Second division the games are played at a higher pace and with greater intensity and you have to be switched on at all times.

"It will not be easy but a win is achievable. A lot of our players have performed at the higher level and on the back of our good start we will not be lacking in confidence. In the end I'm sure it will come down to the team with the better defensive qualities."

Sargent points to the fact that Fylde, while losing last week, still managed to score 28 points.

"That's a big enough warning for us. We have an excellent defensive record but there will be no room for complacency. We found out first hand that in the higher division it is all about exploiting half chances. If we are going to win it will take total concentration and commitment," he said.

Saturday's league win was a comfortable romp after an extremely uncomfortable opening quarter.

Camberley kicked a penalty and scored a try while Lydney were still rubbing the sleep from their eyes – a start like that at Fylde and there will be no return.

But once the home forwards had rumbled a scrum or two and softened the visitors midfield defence, the gaps soon opened and the tries piled up.

Once more Adam Westall enjoyed a field day with a 28 point haul, this time playing from outside-half.
