I HAVE read the letters about the conflict of interests regarding walkers and riders on Forest paths and I believe that I have a simple no cost solution to go a long way towards resolving the problem.

Firstly, let me state that as a walker I am occasionally inconvenienced by the churned up state of footpaths caused by horses; However, I also appreciate that some footpaths become difficult or unusable in summer because of the rampant growth of bracken and brambles. I am then thankful of the paths horses have used so that I can walk with greater ease.

So as a walker I can, hand on heart, say that I have no strong opinion either way.

My solution is to suggest that the 'horsey organisations' adopt a code of practise which advises members that where riders see paths becoming muddy, they ride their horses on the undergrowth alongside the path to lessen their impact on the main track and also make a less muddy diversion available for walkers.

How about it horsey people. What do you think of my idea?
