I READ with interest that Lydney railway station is to receive more Cross Country trains in each direction. This will be welcome news for commuters but, I'm sure, a concern for businesses on the industrial estate unless highways can take some action to avoid potential delays at the crossing.
My letter is concerned with foot passengers, however. Try as we might, everyone is occasionally not quite as early as we would like to be in arriving to catch a bus or train. In the last week we needed to take our daughter to the station to catch a train to Cardiff and despite arriving at the car park to drop her off three minutes before the train was due, the barriers were already down and there was, therefore, no way to get her across the track safely to catch the train.
The train duly arrived and departed at least a minute or so early.
Had a footbridge been in place over the track this problem could have been avoided quite easily. With plans in place to build so many new houses in Lydney in the near future, this type of problem could become more frequent and result in residents potentially taking silly risks to dash across the track in order to catch their train.
