Chepstow batted first in a 40 over side match but lost an early wicket when Dave Bennett went cheaply.
However Brian Dickenson (55) and teenager, Tom Pass (68) took the score to 145 before the second wicket fell. A minor collapse followed and it seemed Chepstow would not bat out all their overs. However, 14-year-old Scott Bailey, recently selected for the Gwent County squad, hit an assured 37 not out to make sure Chepstow reached a creditable 236 for 8.
Lydney made a disastrous start, losing early wickets and only a hard hitting innings of 47 by James Bishop enabled the visitors to reach a respectable 140 for 9, failing by 96 runs to match their Welsh hosts.
Lewis Fawsitt with three for 23 was the leading wicket-taker for Chepstow and 15-year-old Mitchell Harris took two for 17 in eight overs. Mitchell has been selected to play for Wales under 16s this year.
