ALL out for 52! If Lydney needed a sharp reminder that winning promotion from the Gloucestershire division of the West of England Premier League was going to be anything but a cake walk they received an early warning at Redmarley.

"It was stuffing," reflected club secretary Andrew Davis this week.

"But we are better than that. At full strength we have a good side. We believe we can compete at least a league higher," says Davis.

He had hoped Lydney would record their first win when they entertained Stone at The Recreation Ground on Saturday. But with the visitors at 30 for 2 down came the rain!

Davis is hoping the young team, captained by Ed Jones, will settle quickly.

"We will be looking to the experience of batsman Jonny Kear and to the expertise of Jon Bowdler who has joined us from Ruardean Hill. Now the rugby season has ended Will Jones will also be back," he said.

For enthusiasm Lydney offered huge potential, said Davis. The club comfortably fielded three senior teams and young players were in abundance with teams at every age group level.

"There's a lot going on here and I'm optimistic we will enjoy a good season," he said.
