THERE was a double celebration at the Dean Academy recently as a retired teacher and former student received an education award from a royal guest.

Lynn Orr retired as Head of Design and Technology back in the summer as her pupil Luca Steel left the school armed with outstanding GCSE results. The talented student was selected as overall top candidate from the WJEC examining board for her work in Food and Nutrition. It was of such a high standard it prompted the WJEC to recommend the British Nutrition Foundation to consider her for The BNF Drummond Education Award.

The pair was invited to an awards ceremony as part of the British Nutrition Foundation Annual Day, where they each received an award from HRH The Princess Royal who is a patron of the foundation.

Mrs Orr, who helped Luca achieve an A* in the subject, was also presented with an award and a £100 cheque for the academy. She said: "It was a wonderful day, one I'll never forget and a real thrill to meet The Princess Royal."
