THE hunt is on for fly-tippers who dumped the remains of a caravan and household rubbish in a layby beside a main Forest road.

The huge pile of rubbish was left just outside Bream at the side of the B4231 Lydney road the week before last.

Outraged Bream councillor Richard Leppington called the culprits ‘disgraceful’ and has asked for anyone with information to contact him so that they can be prosecuted.

The fly-tipped rubbish included material such as plasterboard, wood, a mattress and other pieces which have been piled into what appeared to be the upside-down roof of a caravan.

A Forest of Dean Council contractor cleared the site, which sits in woodland two miles from Lydney, at the weekend.

Speaking before it was cleared, Cllr Leppington said: “This is just utter vandalism and a disgrace.

“It has been there for two weeks now and is going to cost the taxpayer money to clear up, as it will have to be done by a specialist contractor through the district council.

“I have no idea who has done it but it must have taken a while for someone to offload all of this rubbish as there is a lot of it.

“It would probably have taken two or three men to do it and it must have come off a lorry of some description,” he added.

“It really annoys me that someone is having a laugh at our expense.”

Anyone with information to help catch and prosecute the people concerned can private message Cllr Leppington on his Facebook page.

They can also contact Gloucestershire Police and the Forest of Dean Council.

A spokesperson for the Forest district council said: “Our street wardens discovered the remains of a caravan fly-tipped on the Lydney to Bream Road on November 1.

“We’ve organised a specialist contractor for the caravan’s removal.

“Anyone with information about this incident should contact [email protected].”
