THE sale of historic Danby Lodge, Yorkley, shows a booming high end of the market encouraged by high-tec living, says the agent who sold it.
David Toombs, at the Lydney branch of Kevin J Toombs, said it was good to see a growing demand for quality family homes in the Forest area which was previously a poor cousin to the likes of the Cotswolds.
One factor leading to this was a perceived lack of accessibility, he said.
"With the availability of information technology and the changing work patterns, people in industry can choose to live wherever they want, keeping in touch with their clients via e-mail and fax."
Grade II listed Danby Lodge, deep in woodland off a Forest track, has a fascinating history and was on the market at £375,000.
The eight-bedroom home came with a range of outbuildings, a coach house and an outdoor swimming pool set in around 1.8 acres of grounds.
"The new owners are very happy indeed with it," said Mr Toombs. "This sort of property in this sort of price range is now being sold regularly to genuine proceedable clients."
•For anyone able to contemplate making an offer in the region of £400,000, Hamiltons Chartered Surveyors of Gloucester and Lydney are offering The Worrals Farm at St Briavels. Included is a detached three-bedroom farmhouse, a range of farm buildings and four pasture paddocks extending to about 32 acres.
