THE recent stories and the poem relating to Samuel 'wooden head' Jenkins prompted me to look out this photograph of my father George Rudge with his first wife, Agnes Jenkins, youngest daughter of Samuel.
The couple, who were married at Coleford Baptist Chapel in 1886, are photographed with their two children Elizabeth and Arthur. The photograph was taken in 1895.
Unfortunately Agnes died before the turn of the century. Later George married my mother, Kate, and my sisters and brothers were born in the house that Samuel had provided for Agnes. The house in Parkend Road, Bream, is still there to this day. – Dave Rudge, Bream.
