REGARDING the imminent decisions by Gloucestershire County Council on the £2m cutbacks to bus subsidies.

Inevitably there will be severe cutbacks to our various services, which is regretable.

Services like the 755 Lydney/Chepstow will be axed, despite the commendable 100 plus petition from the people of Alvington. As a regular user of this service I know that actual users are minimal.

In particular I write concerning the new 23 Coleford-Lydney-Gloucester service of which the Sunday service is particularly under threat.

Attending a local bus review roadshow presented by Gloucestershire County Council, I learned that they proposed a last return bus from Gloucester be 4pm. Again, as a consistent Sunday traveller from Newnham to Gloucester and return, I know that this is a well subscribed service including people who work in Gloucester retailers 10am-4pm and rely on both an early and later return.

Accordingly, I registered 22 signatures inward and 24 on the 5.30 return this previous weekend which petition I have submitted to Gloucester County Council where, I understand, a Mr Alan Barrett will head up an appraisal in due course.

If any readers are similarly concerned about this or other public transport issues I urge you to submit your requests direct to Mr Barrett at Shire Hall, Gloucester.
