THE annual awards evening at Berry Hill's Lakers School celebrates more than the successes of the school's brightest pupils – it also awards effort and attitude.

Headteacher Alison Elliott told the Review: "At Lakers we have so many pupils who always give of their best. Many develop into truly excellent members of our community, working consistently, diligently, and, in some cases, very much against the odds."

She said it was those who found achieving difficult, for whatever reason, but who never gave up the struggle who were the true heroes.

The awards evening was a great success, she said, because it celebrated such a wide range of achievements.

Guests included chair of the governors Mr Ben Bennun, Bells Foundation representative Mr Mike Lacey, deputy head of Cheltenham Kingsmead, Mr Tony Chong, and Coun David Clarke.
